The Studio was commissioned by a Mumbai businessman to design a new residence in Navi Mumbai for his family. The client had acquired the neighbour plot to his existing residence in Vashi and asked us to design a new familiy house with a modern architecture language, timeless and elegant.

Vashi is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Navi Mumbai, overlooking the Mumbai creek, is one of greenest areas in Mumbai. The site is separated from the creek by a dense group of mangroves and a pedestrian promenade with mature trees. The dense vegetation creates a comfortable microclimate around the site, dropping the temperature during the summer season. The client asked us through passive design to manage the humidity and the optimisation of natural cross ventilation, reducing the dependency on air condition systems.

The family brief was to separate the external social spaces from the family more private areas. he client brief asked for 4 levels, ground floor to entertain their guests, the first floor for his younger son, the second level for his eldest married son and the third floor for the client.

The building mass is divided in 3 volumes in light beige stone on a podium in dark grey granite. The windows and doors are specified with Teak wood, and the windows are detailed to be operable during the monsoon season.
